What would I need to do to run the Online version in my own desktop computer?

Just removing the underscore in _index.html does not work.

Since a while browsers are more restrictive and do not accept content coming from the local disk, with the result you’re experiencing…

One solution (besides mz3Viewer 😉 is to install a local web server on your desktop PC.

if you search for XAMPP (Windows) or MAMP (Mac) on the internet you’ll find download links easily (or use the one I provided).

XAMPP is an open source package combining an Apache Web Server, MariaDB, PHP, and Perl. It is pretty easy to install.

There might be just a problem with port conflicts; depending on the configuration of your system, though.

If Skype is installed (I personally switched to Wire), Windows publishing services are running, or an FTP connection ist active or alike, the same port Apache wants to attach to might already be used.

There are different solutions to overcome that (Google is your friend). I personally stop the Windows Publishing Services and start Apache manually after that.

And everything works fine. Find details in the screenshots below.

That’s not the answer I had hoped for, but it is what it is. I’ll have to keep searching for an answer to my quest.

Thanks

What are you expecting to find?

Actually I was not expecting anything, but searching around to see if there was an html-like way of viewing the flipbook.
